Services will be March 29 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Royal. Rev. Norma Jean Andrews and Pastor Joel Wentworth will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by American Legion Post 136 with burial in the Orchard Hill Cemetery, Orchard. Pallbearers will be Jerry Sperry, Philip Risinger, Bill Sperry, Dean Carlson, Kelly Whitehorn and Kirk Cleveland. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Carhart, George Grubbs, Larry Test and Tim Pfanstiel. Eldon was born March 10, 1930, to Horace and Mildred (Phillips) Sperry at Dennis, Kan. As the family moved to different locations, Eldon attended various schools. He moved to Nebraska in 1947 where he worked as a farmhand around Laurel until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951 for three years. He was stationed in different areas including Germany and Korea. After his discharge in 1954, he married Margaret Graham. They had four sons and one daughter. Eldon was employed at RADEC and MARRA Construction Companies until he began his own company, Sperry Construction, Wayne. He married Janice Sampson in 1969. As well as woodworking, Eldon enjoyed fishing and gardening. He and Ellen "Jo" Carlson Peterson were wed March 28, 1986, and moved to Houston, Texas. Eventually they came back to this area and have lived in Royal since October 1998. Survivors include his wife, Jo; sons, Gayle "Butch" and wife, Cindy, Allen; Duane and wife, Laura, Denver, Colo.; and daughters, Tammy and husband, Brett Beard, Bailey, Colo.; and Annette Peterson, Sioux City, Iowa; brothers, Keith, Eureka, Calif.; Jerry, Wayne; Richard, Clearwater, Kan.; Roger, Hermiston, Ore.; Kenneth, Denver, Colo.; Victor, Tecumseh, Okla.; and sisters, Joyce Hoppes, Parsons, Kan.; Jeanette Graham, Ottawa, Kan.; and Gail Keyser, Keller, Texas; 16 grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
