Suing (PHOTO) ST. HELENA - Erwin L. Suing, 85, St. Helena, died May 22, 2001, at his residence. Visitation was held May 25 at Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, with a vigil service later that evening at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, St. Helena. Mass of Christian Burial was May 26 at Holy Family (Immaculate Conception) Catholic Church, with Rev. Ross Burkhalter officiating. Burial was in Immaculate Conception Cemetery, St. Helena. Pallbearers were Henry Suing, Rodney Schmidt, Elmer Jansen, Ralph Veach, Loren Bender and Rolland Hausman. Erwin was born April 24, 1916, to Joseph and Josephine (Becker) Suing at St. Helena. He grew up, lived and farmed on the same farm southwest of St. Helena all of his life. He married Denelda Bender June 14, 1949, at St. Helena. Erwin was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Helena. He loved to play cards and when he was younger he played baseball. Survivors include his wife, Denelda Suing, St. Helena; five children and their spouses, Carlin and Brian Yonke, Liberty, Mo.; Terry and Ann Suing, Yuma, Ariz.; Janet and Marcel Arens, Coleridge; Kelly and Coleen Suing, St. Helena; and Lea and Tom Marsh, Hartington; 11 grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Hochstein, Hartington; Felicitas Schmidt, St. Helena; and Lavina Kramer, Hastings. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Hugo, Arnold and Clarence Suing; and three sisters, Maxalinda Jansen, Adeline Suing and Rosanne Hoebelheinrich.
