Svendgard, 42, died in St. Francis Hospital, Grand Island, following a car accident Dec. 15, 1998. Services were Dec. 18 at the Fremont Alliance Church with Rev. John Wirkes officiating. Burial was in the Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, with Military Honors. Doug was born in Fremont Dec. 5, 1956. He grew up in the Arlington area attending Arlington public schools. After high school, he joined the Army for three years. He was stationed in Colorado Springs, Colo., towards the end of his term in the Army, and he remained there to work in construction. Doug moved back to Nebraska in the spring of 1982 and was still working in the construction field. Later he bought and operated a locker plant in Wynot until an injury to his right hand. The past two years Doug was employed as a federal meat inspector at the Monfort Plant in Grand Island. Survivors include his parents, Fran and Darrell Miller, Blair; and Andrew and Carol Svendgard, Arlington; a daughter, Sherri, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a son, Charles, Wynot; three sisters, Tami (Mrs. Brian Johnson) and Patti (Mrs. Bruce Sullivan) both of Arlington; and Mindy Svendgard, Omaha; two step-brothers, Michael Miller, Uehling; and Jim Miller, Kennard; and many nieces and nephews.
