Tweedy (PHOTO) CROFTON - Benjamin "Ben" J. Tweedy, 71, died Aug. 19, 2001, at the Veterans' Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. Visitation will be Aug. 22 from 3-9 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. The family will be present from 6-9 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior to service Thurs. at church. Services will be Aug. 23 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Crofton, with Rev. Paul Reimers officiating. Burial will be in the Crofton City Cemetery, Crofton, with military services conducted by Crofton American Legion Post #128. Pallbearers will be eight grandsons: Jason and Benji Tweedy, Shane Tweedy, Travis Schroeder, Roger Hoebelheinrich, Jeremy Tweedy, James Tweedy, and Josh Tweedy. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters: Bobbi Sue Tweedy, Sherry Gartner, Tonya and Amber Tweedy, Timary Tweedy, Jenny Burks, Sarah Tweedy, Brenda Hoebelheinrich, Stefanee Schroeder and Keisha Aman. Ben was born June 26, 1930 to Fred and Emma (Buskirk) Tweedy in Springfield, S.D. On Sept 4, 1952, he married Pearl Erickson in Tyndall, S.D. Ben served in the Korean War from Sept. 1952-1954. After his discharge from the Army, he spent his life in Crofton raising four boys and three girls. He worked construction for 21 years and then became self- employed as a mechanic until he retired in 1992. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing his guitar. Survivors include: his wife, Pearl Tweedy, Crofton; four sons and spouses: Mike and Carol Tweedy, Yankton, S.D.; Robert and Peg Tweedy, Crofton; Dennis and Tami Tweedy, Yankton, S.D.; Les and Karen Tweedy, Hubbard; three daughters and spouses: Cheryl and Leander Schroeder, St. Helena; Marlene Tweedy and special friend Lee Lukens, Crofton; Phoebe Aman and fiance Glenn Dirks, Dakota City; 19 grandchildren, seven great- grandchildren; three brothers and spouses: Harold and Arbutus Tweedy, Lashara; Kenneth Tweedy, Mead; Dick and Norma Tweedy, Omaha; four sisters and spouses: Darlene and Marvin LaCroix, Yankton, S.D.; Delores and Merlin LaCroix, Crofton; Sharon and Lawrence Kaiser, Ceresco; Donna Milliken, Mead; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, infant Fred Jr. and Marion; two sisters, infant Betty Ann and Etta and son-in-law, Kenneth Aman.
