Walter Sr. (PHOTO) CROFTON - Delmar J. Walter Sr., 70, died Aug. 1, 2001, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D. Visitation was August 3 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Crofton. Services were held August 4 at Congregational United Church of Christ, Crofton, with Rev. Paul Opsahl officiating. Burial was in Beaver View Cemetery, Crofton. Pallbearers were Roger Lange, Jeff Maibaum, Delwyn Wheeler, Gary Arens, Steve Kyriss and Noah Schieffer. Honorary pallbearers were Gerald Arens, Vern Maibaum, Don Hofmaier, Norman Guenther, Norbert Guenther and Francis Steffen. Delmar was born March 11, 1931, to Joesph V. and Emma A. (Kotrous) Walter in Crofton. On Feb. 6, 1953, he married Patty Ann Taggart in Vermillion, S.D. She died Oct. 12, 1984, at the age of 51. Delmar grew up in Crofton and lived there until he was 17 years old. He moved to Norfolk and graduated from Norfolk Senior High School. He then worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator. He was involved in the construction of the Dam in Pierre, S.D., and other dam projects. He moved back to Crofton in Deccember of 1959 where he began farming on the family farm. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Yankton and United Commercial Travelers. Survivors include three children and spouses: Linda and Roger Klausen, Laurel; Delmar Jr. and Bonnie Jo Walter, Pierce; and Delwin and Robin Walter, Crofton; nine grandchildrne; one great-granddaughter; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Earl Tramp, Yankton, S.D. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and an infant brother.
