Services will be at 2 p.m., Feb. 8, at Union Presbyterian Chruch, Belden with burial to follow at the Belden Cemetery. Dorothy was born June 4, 1914, to John and Mary (Buchholz) Hansen in rural Coleridge. She attended District #95 North Cedar County country school, completing the eighth grade. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Randolph. In 1932, Dorothy married Theodore "Ted" Whipple in Olivet, S.D. They moved to rural Belden where they lived with his father, LeRoy William "Colonel" Whipple and uncle, Charles Henry Whipple. They had four children, Donald, Larry, Carole, and Ronald. Ted left the home in 1940, but Dorothy remained on the farm with LeRoy and Charlie raising her four children with their help. In 1960, Dorothy moved to Belden and still did housekeeping for LeRoy and Charlie. She also did baby-sitting outside the home. In 1981, she became a licensed day-care provider, opening her home to many children of the community and surrounding area. Dorothy never learned to drive, but volunteered to help anyone in town when needed and did a lot of baking for the joys in life were the kids in her day care. In March 1985, Dorothy entered the Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Randolph, and remained there for 16 years until the time of her death. Dorothy is survived by one daughter, Carole and Ron Poches, Boise, Idaho; three sons, Donald and Carol Whipple, Stanton; Larry Whipple and Mary Burns, Baltimore, Md.; and Ron and Lynda Whipple, Belden; two grandsons, Mark and Chad; 10 granddaughters; Sharyn, Denise, LaDonna, Kim, Cheryl, Donna, Cindy, Beth, Tammy and Sandy; 20 great- grandchildren; four sisters, Louise and Roy Seeley, St. James, Minn.; Elaine Imboden, ElCerrito, Calif.; Irene Ambroz, Sioux City, Iowa; Mary and Steve Cosenz, Lake Tahoe, Calif.; and two brothers, Ray and Vi Hansen, Elk Grove, Calif.; and Al Hansen, Santa Clara, Calif.
