Wortman HARTINGTON- Rudolph J. Wortman, 78, died January 18. 1999, at the Hartington Nursing Center. Visitation will be Jan. 21, at the Wintz Funeral Home, from 1-5:30 p.m. A vigil service will be at 7:30 p.m. that evening at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Edgar Wortman officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington Military services will be conducted by Hartington VFW Post #5283. A complete obituary will appear in next week's issue of the Cedar County News. WEDNESDAY, JAN. 27, 1999 - CEDAR COUNTY NEWS Rudolph J. Wortmann (PHOTO) HARTINGTON - Rudolph J. Wortmann, 78, died Jan. 18, 1999, at the Hartington Nursing Center, Hartington. Visitation was Jan. 21 at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington. A vigil service was held later that evening at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Hartington. Funeral services were Jan. 22 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with Rev. Edgar Wortmann officiating. Burial was in St. Michael's Cemetery, Hartington, with military services conducted by Hartington VFW Post #5283. Pallbearers were John Craig, Mark Wortmann, Wesley Wortmann, Brett Wortmann, Tim Fleissner, Tom Craig, Craig Wortmann and Dean Wortmann. Honorary pallbearers were Clarence Kathol, Pete Burbach, Gerald Burbach, Don Hochstein, Jerry Litz, Jerome Schulte, Joe Reifenrath, Bob Gentrup, Tony Keiter and David Sudbeck. Rudolph was born July 17, 1920, to Anton J. and Mary (Schnuettgen) Wortmann in Bow Valley. He married Anna C. Guenther April 30, 1946, in Constance. He grew up and lived in the Bow Valley area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1942 to September 1945, and returned to Bow Valley where he farmed. He moved in to Hartington in 1983. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, Hartington VFW Post #5283 and the Disabled American Veterans. He was also a Fourth Degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Anna, Hartington; nine children and their spouses, Roger and Sherry Wortmann, Hartington; Mary Jean and Richard Stefanec, Tarzana, Calif; Louann and Gary Gard, Chesapeake, Va.; Dennis and Deb Wortmann, North Platte; Jolene and Robert Fleissner, Omaha; Rita and Joe Craig, Omaha; Loren and Mary Ann Wortmann, Hartington; Gerard "Gary" and Joan Wortmann, Hartington; Carol and Tim Craig, Hartington; three sisters, Elvira Kathol, Bow Valley; Mrs. Edgar (Theodora) Wuebben, Wynot; Mrs. John (Josephine) Olinger, Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers, Rev. Edgar Wortmann, Omaha, and Francis Wortmann, Hartington; 39 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Jean Marie; a brother, August; a sister, Eleanor Pinkelman; and a granddaughter, Michelle Wortmann. Memorials preferred to Cedar Catholic Endowment Fund.
