Avery, farmer and bank executive at Edgar, Nebraska, has lived in Clay County all his life. He was born at Edgar, February 19, 1881, the son of Orin Austin Avery and Rosalie Audelphin (Hoffman) Avery. His father, who was born in Vermont, February 10, 1837, and died at Edgar, October 1, 1911, was a merchant; he served as captain of the Rhode Island Cavalry during the Civil War. His mother was born in Georgia, October 30, 1846, and died at Edgar, May 13, 1929; her ancestry was German and French. Mr. Avery attended high school at Edgar, graduating in 1900. He is now a farmer and is serving as vice president of the Edgar State Bank. He is vice president of the school board in his community, is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, and holds membership in the Nebraskana Society. He is a Mason, a member of the Edgar Lodge No. 67, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine at Hastings. His hobby is mechanics. His political affiliation is with the Republican party. His marriage to Bertha Fay Miller occurred at Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska, January 23, 1909. Mrs. Avery was born at Edgar, March 20, 1889, the daughter of John G. and Jennie L. (Sanborn) Miller. She is a member of the Eastern Star and has held various positions including that of organist, and is also active in the affairs of the Presbyterian Church. Mr. and Mrs. Avery have four children, Lucile Rosalie, born February 9, 1910; Doris Margaret, born August 11, 1912; Jeanette Louise, born September 4, 1915; and Bobbie Jean, born August 21, 1924.
