Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Wednesday Dec. 15, at the Elm Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Dean Pofahl will officiate. Military rites at graveside will be conducted by the Nebraska National Guard, VFW Post 759 and the American Legion Post 52 of Kearney. There was not a visitation. He was born in Callaway on Dec. 20, 1927 to John and Elsie (Wenzel) Nelson. He attended school in Callaway and graduated from Callaway High School. He attended electronics tech school in Minnesota for one year. He served in the Army during the Korean War. He was married to Joyce Nielsen on April 21, 1959 in Yankton, S.D. They made their home in Kearney. He was employed by Western TV in Kearney as a television technician. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Nelson, of Kearney; son, Jamie (Michelle) of Allen, Texas and their children, Jakob and Angela and brother, Carl of Callaway. He was preceded in death by two sons, Johnny and Alan; brother, Richard; sister, Helen Leibhart; one infant brother and one infant sister.
