He had been afflicted with apoplexy for some little time and was found in the yard about a week before his death, suffering with a stroke of that disease. He was born at Pittsburg, Pa., March 4, 1841, dying at the age of 67 years and 20 days. When he was a boy his parents moved to Ohio, in which state he graduated from a high school, and later from a law school. When a young man he went to Wisconsin for a time, where he taught school. He married on August 19, 1867, at Watertown, Wis, to a cousin, Miss Mary Holsworth, and in April of the next year came to Dakota county and took a homestead, where he has since resided, making him one of our early pioneers. He has held a number of minor offices in the county, was chosen as state representative from this district in 1884, to which trust he was true and stood for that which he deemed right and just. Last fall he made a trip east to once more visit his old home, and remaining friends, realizing it would be the last time he would view the familiar sights that brought back to his mind, as if it were but yesterday, the gleeful days of his light-hearted childhood. He was a man who thought a great deal of his friends, and they in turn had great love for "Uncle Billy" as he was so commonly known in his old age. Funeral services were held from the house at one o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. E. H. Combs officiating. Interment was had in Omadi cemetery. The pall bearers were as follows: S. A. Combs, S. A. Brown, J. H. Rockwelll, T D Curtis, Ed Maurice and Rasmus Fredricksen. The surviving relatives are Mrs. Mary Holsworth and nine children: Charles, Mrs Wm Speir, of Winnebago; Wm H, Mrs Ed Pilgrim, Clara E., Thomas R., Elizabeth, Matilda, and Benjamin Harrison. Five grand children: Mamie, Bessie and Julia Holsworth, the children of Charles; Louis W. Pilgrim; and Eva Holsworth, daughter of Wm H Deceased is the last member of his family.
