Myers Dead After a brief illness A. J. Myers, who came to this vicinity in 1857, died at his home at 714 Cook street at an early hour yesterday morning from causes incident to old age. He was 85 years old. Through his alleged possession of miraculous healing powers, he was well known throughout the eastern sections of Nebraska and in Sioux City, and many peopel claim to have been cured by him. While he never advertised himself as possessing wonderful gifts as to healing, Mr Myers is said to have performed a number of startling cures. Being the possessor of a comfortable fortune, he never made any charges for treatment and never attempted to make a business out of his healing. Mr Myers called his treatment the "moon" or "planet" treatment. He contended that the moon had a great influence over the world and it's people and if they were taken in charge at the right time many diseases could be cured under it's influence. He never treated a case unless the moon was in its first quarter. It is said also he performed many cures for diseases horses. The deceased man was born in Licumming county, Pa., and as a young man came to Sioux City, where he first made his home. He was a mason by trade and assisted in laying the brick for the first brick building ever erected in this city. In 1858 he went to Dakota county, locating within four miles of the present site of Homer, Neb. His give of healing first manifested itself when he came from his home in Pennsylvania to the new western country. Mr. Mye4rs continued active work on his farm until nine years ago, when he removed to Sioux City after selling his property. He took up his residence with his daughter, Miss Mary Myers, as his housekeeper. His wife died ten years ago. Mr. Myers is survived by nine children, as follows: Mrs. Hattie Ford, Laurel, Neb; J F Myers, Belvidere, SD; Miss Mary Myers Sioux City; William W Myers Sioux City; Richard Myers, Belvidere, SD; George Myers, Sioux City; Mrs. J P Twohig, Sioux City; Mrs Joseph Geisler, Yankton, SD; and Mrs Frank Lilly, Belvidere, SD. He leaves also two brothers and a sister, as follows; John B Myers, Homer, Neb; Peter Myers, Grand Island, Neb, and Mrs. Tillie ?anpp, Pittsburg, Pa.-- Sioux City Journal 22nd. The funeral services were held on Wednesday at Jackson, from the Catholic church, of which he was a devout and faithful member during his long residence in that county. A large gatheing of his old time friends and associates were present to pay their last respect to the deceased.
