Oct 15.--During the past ten days death has claimed three of the pioneer women of this locality. On the 6th, the remains of Mrs. James Stott were interred at Emerson, being brought from Kansas City, where her death occurred at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tim Carrabine. Mrs. Stott was the widow of James Stott, who in the 50's served this county as county clerk and who for twelve years was receiver of the government land office at this place. His death occurred in 1882.... The remains of Mrs. Chris Waddell were yesterday interred in the Taylor cemetery, her death having occurred at South Sioux City, from dropsy. Mrs. Waddell was one of the pioneer ladies of this county as well as Keokuk county, Ia. Among the children left her youngest son is the present disbursing agent for the Winnebago Indians, Major Oscar M. Waddell....The funeral of Mrs. Mary Jay-Warner, commonly known as "Grandma Jay" occurred in this yesterday at the home of her son-in-law, John Robertson. She was in her 90th year and came to this place with her son, Attorney Nell C. Jay, in 1881. She was a former resident of Keokuk county, Iowa.
