Ahrens, age 82 of Cozad, died Saturday, March 5, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cozad with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Visitation for memorial book signatures will be held one hour prior to service time at the church on Wednesday. Allen was born Feb. 28, 1929 at Ravenna to Otto and Myrtle (Hughes) Ahrens. He graduated from Ravenna High School in 1948. Allen went on to attend two years of trade school in engineering and construction. Allen married Nathaleen Hoghfeld on June 24, 1949 at Ravenna. Allen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cozad as well as the Cozad Elk’s Lodge No. 2250. Survivors include his wife of over 61 years, Nathaleen of Cozad; two sons, Ritch Ahrens of Greeley, Colo., Rob Ahrens of Scottsdale, Ariz.; daughter Jill (Ward) Carpenter of Arapahoe; brother, Arno Ahrens of Grand Island; two grandchildren, Chad (Kayla) Carpenter, Colby (Natasha) Carpenter, all of Arapahoe; four great-grandchildren, Eli Corbin, Camden and Cadence Carpenter, all of Arapahoe and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith; sister, Daisy; brother-in-law, Ray; and a sister-in-law, Shirley.
