Artz, age 85, of Lexington, formerly of Elwood, died Friday, July 23, 2010 at the Tri County Hospital in Lexington. Services will be held on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church at Elwood with Pastor Linda Newman officiating. Burial will be held at the Elwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service time at the church on Tuesday. Doris was born Jan. 12, 1925 to Herman and Marie (Schultz) Lierman on a farm west of Eustis. The family moved to a farm south of Elwood when she was three; and later, into town. She graduated from Elwood High School in 1944. Following her schooling, Doris worked for a time at Brewster Hospital in Holdrege. On April 27, 1947, she married Chester Artz of Huntley. The couple made their home in Elwood where they raised their family. Their marriage was blessed with three children; Glenn, Kay and Nancy. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Elwood where she was active in CWF, taught Sunday School for eight years, sang in the choir, and helped put together many booths for the Gosper County Fair. She belonged to the neighborhood birthday club and was always concerned about her friends and neighbors. She was an excellent seamstress and made many clothes for her daughters, including a wedding dress. She also made costumes for Halloween and school operettas. Her beautiful flowers were her special pleasure, but her family was her greatest joy. She especially liked having her grandchildren stay with her when they were growing up. Survivors include her two daughters, Kay (Kent) Brockmeier of Eustis, Nancy (Steve) Israel of Novato, Calif.; son, Glenn (Roberta) Artz of Doniphan; sister, Lorraine Schneider of Elwood; brother, Gilbert Lierman of Hastings; sisters-in-law, Mardelle Lierman of Boulder, Colo., Inez Lierman of Hastings, Tillie Artz of Lincoln, Della Sindt of Franklin, Rita Artz of Alma, Barbara Artz of Huntley and Lela Dier of Holdrege; brothers-in-law, Gordon Byler of Alma, Bennie Joe Sindt of Franklin, John Dier of Holdrege; five grandchildren, Bryant (Amanda) Brockmeier of Eustis, Craig (Cathy) Brockmeier of Grand Island, Jodi (Mike) Azevedo of Overland Park, Kan., Chad (Helen) Artz of Lakewood, Colo., and Darin Artz of Lincoln; nine great-grandchildren, Evan, Reid, Jennae, Erin and Gage Brockmeier, Brooklyn Azevedo, David, Anthony and Gena Artz; step-great-grandchildren, Desiree, Kristina and Alicia Viveros and Lane Baxter. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Artz, in 1987; sister, Viola Reinhardt; brothers Walter, Arthur and Loyal Lierman; mother-in-law, Laura Artz; sisters-in-law, Lorene Lierman, Hazel Bennet and Edith Byler; brothers-in-law, Alex Reinhardt, Carl Schneider, Harold Bennet and Delmar, George and Lewis Artz.
