Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, 2011 at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg with Pastor Matthew Groenke officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the American Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. Burial with military honors will be at the American Lutheran Cemetery north of Gothenburg. Archie was born July 12, 1927 on his family farm north of Cozad to Ricus and Elizabeth (Poggendorf) Block, in the house where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1945. In 1952 he joined the U.S. Army and served on the front lines of the war in Korea as a radio specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with two Bronze stars and several service medals. On Sept. 7, 1958, Archie married Bonnie Jean Hartman at Cozad. Their marriage was blessed with one daughter, Ann. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie Block of Cozad; daughter, Ann Block and son- in-law Rick Mockler of Davis, Calif, two granddaughters, Brenna and Alana Mockler; brother, Vernon (Gail) Block; two sisters, Arlene (Rodney) Aden and Geraldine Kampe and many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Archie was preceded in death by his father, Ricus; mother, Elizabeth and his brothers, Virgil and Alvin.
