Carl C. Brim, 82, of Johnson Lake, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010, at Tri-County 
Hospital in Lexington.

A graveside inurnment service will be Monday, Dec. 13, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at 
Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.

Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 12, 2010, from 2-4 p.m. at the Reynolds-
Love Chapel in Lexington.

He was born Sept.3, 1928, at Sargent, to Lu and Anna (Paider) Brim.  Carl’s 
family later moved to Ord where he graduated from Ord High School with the 
class of 1947.  While in high school, he worked at Ringleins Drug Store and 
after graduation he attended the college of pharmacy at the University of 
Nebraska in Lincoln. While in Lincoln he joined the National Guard and served 
with the guard when it was activated during the blizzard of ’48 and ’49.  
While in Lincoln he worked for the Burlington Railroad.   

On Nov. 3, 1950, he was inducted into the Army and served with the 40th 
Infantry Division in Japan and Korea.  He was awarded the Purple Heart for 
wounds he received in action against the enemy on March 13, 1952 while as a 
corporal leading a squad of men down a path through deep snow on a daylight 
reconnaissance patrol near Chungp’Yong, North Korea.  He was then sent to the 
rear echelon to recuperate and assigned to the supply tent.  On May 9, 1952, 
he was promoted to supply sergeant and delivered ammunition and supplies to 
his unit with a truck after dark.  He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge 
while in Korea. 
  
On July 9, 1952, he was promoted to Sergeant First Class.  On Sept. 23, 1952, 
he was separated from active duty at Camp Carson, Colo., and returned to work 
at Ringleins Drug in Ord.  He then worked at Andersen Auto Dealership as a 
bookkeeper and parts man and then Roman’s Motor Freight as a billing clerk. 
On Jan. 15, 1954, he was united in marriage to Phyllis Suck of Palmer.  The 
couple was married at the United Methodist Church in Grand Island.  Two 
children were blessed to this marriage,Gregory and Julie. 

In September 1955, he joined the U.S. Postal Transportation Service in Omaha 
and distributed mail from railway post offices throughout Nebraska, Kansas, 
Colorado, Wyoming and Iowa until the demise of the passenger train service 
whereupon he was assigned to the main post office.  He served as a ramp clerk 
at Eppley Airfield and later as clerk in charge of the Union Pacific Transfer 
Office and was later promoted to foreman of mails in the main office.  The 
last three years of his postal career he was supervisor in charge of the 
postal facility at Eppley Airfield.  He retired from the postal service on May 
4, 1985.   

Shortly after retiring he and Phyllis moved to a cabin at Johnson Lake where 
Phyllis still resides.  In 1990 he worked for the U.S. Census Bureau in taking 
the 1990 Census. 
 
Carl was a member of the American Legion Post No. 0290 at Elwood and a 
lifetime member of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars, Post No. 5136 at Lexington. 
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and traveling.  

Carl is survived by his wife of 56 years; Phyllis Brim of Johnson Lake; son, 
Gregory Brim of Island Park, Idaho and daughter, Julie Brim of Omaha. 

Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Alma Trompke of Ord.
