Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 3 at McMinnville United Methodist Church at 544 NE 2nd Street, followed by entombment at Evergreen Memorial Park. A reception was held in the Church Great Room immediately following the services. Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 4-7 p.m., at Macy and Son Chapel. Buz is survived by his son, Don and wife Carlin; his daughter Barbara and husband Mickey; his granddaughter, Andrea, her husband Ben; grandsons Michael, Seth, and Hollend and wife Rosa; by his special friend Phyllis Moore and her family; by his nephews, nieces, his great-grandchildren and countless other family and friends. Merlyn was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine and his grandson, Peter. Merlyn was raised in North Loup one of three children born to Horace and Rozella Bryan. He graduated from Lexington High School in 1932 and attended the University of Nebraska. Married in 1937, he was the beloved husband of Josephine Bryan for 54 years, until her death in 1991. Buz and Jo moved to Portland, Oregon in 1941, then brought their family to McMinnville in 1951. Buz had a long career in sales and management, retiring in 1979. Buz loved socializing, laughing and having fun with his family and friends. He was an avid bowler, golfer, fisherman. His garden always yielded a bountiful harvest, his cookie plate was never quite full enough and every local sports team had his enthusiastic support, especially the Wildcats. Buz loved to journey, from cross-country adventures in his fifth-wheel, to exploring the forests of Costa Rica, shooting the Deschutes rapids and crossing the Panama Canal. Buz touched the lives of so many people with his smile and trademark sense of humor. Merlyn, a lifelong Democrat, was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Has Beens Bowling Team, the Masonic Lodge of McMinnville and was a founding member of Tommy’s-for-Breakfast-Every-Saturday Club.
