Carey, born on July 8, 1925, in Overton, died Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at his daughter’s residence in Stephens City, Va., where he lived for the past eight years. He was 83 years old. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 18, 2009 in Stephens City, Va. Norv is the beloved father of Ann L. Runo, John H. Carey, Nancy E. Kratochvil, Meredith L. Musgrove and Connie C. Lamothe and has 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two sisters, Virginia A. Carey and Gitch Beatty currently living in Kearney, also survive him. He was preceded in death by his sister Billie Cox of Lexington and brother Jack Carey from Lincoln. Norv was the fourth child of John P. and Gertrude Carey of Overton. In 1943, Norv graduated from Overton High and enlisted in the Navy. While in the service he married Claire L.Dobelbower and celebrated 53 years of marriage until her death in June of 1999. Norv graduated from Cumberland Valley Law School in Tennessee, was an FBI agent until 1956, and was the head of security for the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory until 1964. He then worked for General Atomics Corporation, ending his career as Senior Vice President of Public Relations in Washington DC in 1993.
