A memorial service will be held Friday, Aug. 27, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Cozad with the Rev. Elaine Besthorn and Ethel Fox officiating. Inurnment will be at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. Visitation for memorial book signatures will be held on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Betty was born Aug. 22, 1921 at Great Falls, Mont., to Thomas and Elizabeth (Dunnett) Grant. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1938. Following her schooling, Betty went to work in support of the local WWII effort. It was during this period that she met the love of her life, Stanley Deines. The couple married on Aug. 22, 1945 in Pueblo, Colo., just before Stanley was discharged. They made their home in Lincoln while Stanley attended the University of Nebraska Law School. In 1946, the couple moved to Cozad, where they lived the rest of their married life. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Karen and Cindy. While in Cozad, Betty worked at the local drug stores, and eventually came under employ of the Nebraska Diagnostic Resource Center; a job she held until her retirement at age 78. Betty was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cozad. She was a member of the B.P.O. Does Drove No. 177, American Legion Auxiliary, 600 Bowling Club, Betty’s Club and was a 35 year contributor to the March of Dimes Cake Auction. Betty served as a local Girl Scout Leader and was a charter member of the Cozad Country Club. Betty was a long time blood donor; she gave until she was 86. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Karen (Richard) Keller of Lincoln, Cindi (Donn) Atchison of York; six grandchildren, Sean, Shelley, Heidi, Casey, Corey and Rustin; 12 great-grandchildren and one niece, Sheila Risley of Banning, Calif. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1996, three brothers and one sister. A memorial has been established in her memory. Condolences may be shared at berrymanfuneralhome.com.
