Edna Dewey, 90, of Lexington, died Friday, April 2, 2010, at Elwood Care 
Center in Elwood.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace 
Lutheran Church in Lexington with Pastor Megan Morrow officiating.

Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in 
Lexington.

She was born Oct. 19, 1919, at Overton to Mike and Eva (Warner) Barta.

Edna had a sixth grade education at a rural school north of Overton.  She was 
united in marriage to Vernon E. Dewey on Nov. 10, 1937, at Broken Bow. 

Following their marriage the couple lived on a farm southwest of Eddyville 
moving then to a farm northwest of Sumner.  The couple moved to the “south 
place” on the same section later on, and in 1960, moved from the country to 
Lexington.

Edna was employed at Roepke Care Home for 15 years.  She then cleaned houses 
for social services and volunteered many hours at the Grand Generation Center 
for 18 years.

She loved being with the folks at the center.  She enjoyed playing Bingo and 
playing her penny and five-cent machines at Rosebud.  

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and so enjoyed going when she was 
able.  Edna was proud of her family and enjoyed family gatherings and hearing 
all the details of everyone’s lives.  She will be so very missed by all who 
knew and loved her.

Survivors include three sons, Vernon (Eleanor) Dewey and William (Janice) 
Dewey, all of Lake Havasu City, Ariz., Albert Dean Dewey of Lexington; one 
daughter, Mary Ann (Wayne) Kerr of Lexington; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-
grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Fritz Barta of 
Oregon, Don, Harmon and Lloyd Barta, all of Lexington and two sisters, Leora 
Esslinger of Sterling, Colo., and Dorthy Linder of Cozad.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon in 1991; five 
brothers and sisters; one grandson and one granddaughter.
