Earl, 95, of Elm Creek, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney following a brief stay. Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth will be conducted on Monday, Sept. 13, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek with Father Neal Nollette and Father Jose Chavez officiating. Interment will be held in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Cemetery at Elm Creek. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. with the Rosary following at 7 p.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek. Elizabeth was born on March 30, 1915 at Overton, the eighth child of 15 born to Nick and Elizabeth (Wengler) Thinnes. She received her education at the East District No. 12 Country School in Dawson County. She was united in marriage to Tommy Earl on Feb. 25, 1941, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek.  They were married for 54 happy years. To this union were born two daughters, Kathleen and Phyllis. Elizabeth and Tommy farmed west of Elm Creek until they retired and moved to Elm Creek in 1980, where she maintained her own home until the time of her death. Elizabeth was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elm Creek and the Altar Society her whole adult life.  She took care of the church’s caring card ministry for the last 15 years. Survivors include her two daughters, Kathleen (Robert) Harms and Phyllis (Dean) Shubert, all of Elm Creek; five grandchildren, Rustin Harms of Elm Creek, Kyla (Shubert) (Tim) Martin of Amherst, Troy Shubert of Grand Island, Scott (DeAnn) Shubert, of Elm Creek and Kimberly (Shubert) (Shawn) Ehnes of Julesburg, Colo.; 15 great-grandchildren, Chloe Harms of Elm Creek, Sadie, Ryan, Sydney and Sage Martin of Amherst, Bailey and Paige Shubert of Grand Island, Brooke, Brittani, Brett, Braden and Brecken Shubert of Elm Creek and Satara, Kierra and Keyanna Ehnes of Julesburg; sister, Eileen Lauby of Lexington and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Tommy in 1994; five brothers and eight sisters.
