Fisk, 92, of Cozad, died Monday evening, Aug. 30, 2010. Mass of the Christian Burial will be on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church in Cozad with Father Don O’Brien as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be at the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010 at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Verne was born in Monroe, Mich., on July 31, 1918 to LaVerne and Hazel (Sayers) Fisk. There he married the love of his life, Ann Cegale on Aug. 1, 1942. He began his career with Monroe Auto Equipment in 1936 as an apprentice tool and die maker. He had to take some time off to serve with the Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific. After the war years, through multiple promotions and hands - on experience, Verne became the founder and first plant manager in 1960, of the Cozad division of Tenneco, formerly known as Monroe Auto Equipment. After his retirement in 1978, Verne worked a small farm, raised Paso Fino pleasure horses and eventually began raising and racing thoroughbred horses. He was a member of the Nebraska Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Verne was instrumental in starting the Cozad Chapter of B.P.O.E. lodge no. 2250 in 1962 and remained very active and supportive over the years and had the honor of serving as Exalted Ruler three times. He will be particularly missed by the lodge for his excellent presentation of “The Tolling of the Eleventh Hour” for departed brothers. Verne in the Rotary Club for 15 years, served as president and was a board member of the Cozad Housing Authority for 38 years, Midway Wild Life Board, member of Christ the King Catholic Church and Knight’s of Columbus. He also had memberships in VFW Post 5136 and the American Legion. Survivors include his daughter, Carol (Mike) Toomey of Lincoln; a son, Jim (Karen) Fisk of Omaha; seven grandchildren; 13 great children and a host of other relatives and friends. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann in 2006 and two brothers, Donald and James Fisk.
