Funeral services were Tuesday, November 23, 2010, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 100 E. Michigan St., with Pastor Walter Ullman officiating. Burial was held at Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation was Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave. and until service time at the church. He was born Oct. 23, 1941, in St. Louis, Mo., and baptized into the Christian faith on Nov. 16, 1941, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Louis. He attended Bethlehem Lutheran Grade School in St. Louis and Holy Cross Lutheran School in Emma, Mo. He was a 1959 graduate of St. Paul's Lutheran High School in Concordia, Mo. He attended junior college also at St. Paul's Lutheran School and completed his bachelor and master’s degrees at Concordia College in Seward. On June 5, 1966, Wilfred married the love of his life, Cleone Elaine Hladky. They were married for 44 years. Wilfred retired from St. John's Lutheran School, Country Club Hills, Ill., in 2004 after many years of service as a Lutheran School Principal. Upon his retirement he established a library for the school. He previously was principal at Evansville Lutheran School from 1987 through 1997. He began his service as a teacher in Rogers City, Mich., before becoming the principal of St. John's Lutheran School in Wisner. He also served as principal at Immanuel Chapel in St. Louis, principal of Zion Lutheran in St. Louis, Mo., assistant to the director of Metro Lutheran Center in St. Louis and principal at Immanuel Lutheran in Glenview, Ill. Wilfred was a missionary in Quetzaltengo, Guatemala as the director of the Inter-American School for three years. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Wilfred is survived by his wife of 44 years, Cleone (Hladky) Flandermeyer, of Evansville, Ind., daughter; Holly Faithe (David ) Sawyer of Evansville, Ind.; son, Matthew (Shelley) W. Flandermeyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters, Charlene Martin, of Bath, N.Y., Karen (Robert) Worley of Columbia, Mo.; brothers, Ronald (Bunny) Flandermeyer of Indianapolis, Ind., Robert (Eleanor) Flandermeyer of Santa Rosa, Calif.; grandchildren, Benjamin, Jacob and Zachary Flandermeyer, Emma, Molly, Anna, Heidi and Nicholas Sawyer and numerous nieces and nephews.
