Frees, age 78, of Cozad, died Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010 at the Golden Living Center in Cozad. Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Pastor Blake Armstrong officiating. A private family burial will be held in the Broken Bow Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Goldie was born April 5, 1932 at Broken Bow to Floyd and Florence (Brodine) Applegarth. She attended Broken Bow High School. Goldie went on to attend Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte. On June 8, 1961, Goldie married Johnny A. Frees at Denver. The couple made their home in Denver following their marriage. The family moved frequently before settling down in Cozad in the late 1960s. While in Cozad, Goldie held many jobs, including cooking and nursing. In later years, she came under the employment of Paulsen, Inc. Goldie was a member of the Living Hope Assembly of God Church in Cozad. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Sharon K. Rice; son, James D. Rice; daughter-in-law, Candy Rice and two sisters, Norma Swisher and Delores Rickertsen. Survivors include her three daughters, Francis (Stan) Leslie of Brigham City, Utah, Rebecca (John Boyles) Barber of Cozad, Cynthia Timmer of Lincoln; three sons, Jack (Trina) Terry of Albany, Ore., Johnny (Tasha Watson) Frees of Cozad, Sonny (Rosie) Gladson of Caldwell, Idaho; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bud (Elsie) Applegarth of Mass., Larry (Sharon) Wright of Cozad; sister, Dianne Wright of Lexington and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
