Gerken, 94, of Lexington, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Cozad. Funeral Services were Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Berean Bible Church in Lexington with Pastor Glenn Johnson officiating. Burial was at the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation was held Monday, May 4, 2009, at the Reynolds-Love Chapel in Lexington. Survivors include her son, Ron Gerken and his fiance’, Cheryl Broome of Lexington; her daughters, Arlene (Dale) Gengenbach of Eustis, Barbara (Mark) Walters of Lincoln; one brother, Ken Brandenberg of Lexington; three sisters, Lydia McKee of Washington, Leona Frey of Kearney, Leota (Ed) Schledewitz of Kearney; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Eunice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed in 1991; one infant grandson, Randy Scott; two brothers, Clarence and Willard; three sisters, Goldie McKee, Lucille Gerken and Gladys Phillips. Eunice was born Jan. 1, 1915, at Brady, to Martin and Bertha (Lindsay) Brandenberg. She moved with her family as a young girl to the Lexington area and had made this her home her entire life. She was united in marriage to Edward Gerken on Jan. 1, 1936, at Holdrege. Three children were blessed to this union; Ron, Arlene and Barbara. Eunice was an active member of the Berean Bible Church in Lexington for many, many years and served as custodian for almost 20 of those years. She loved being a mother and homemaker, gardening, being outdoors, reading and read her Bible from cover to cover each year.
