Gilg, 44, of Cozad died July 11, 2010, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney after a brave battle with cancer. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Cozad. Interment will follow at the New Hope Cemetery north of Gothenburg. Visitation for memorial book signatures will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Brenda was born Sept. 28, 1965 to Duane and Lavonne (Peterson) Peterson in Gothenburg. She grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg, attending New Hope School and Church. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1984 following an outstanding sports career. Brenda graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1988 and took her first teaching job in Albion where she taught three years. She spent 19 years as a teacher and coach in Cozad where she was loved by many students and faculty members. In 2009 Brenda attained a M.S. from Wayne State College. Brenda trusted Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age; she was active in church activities throughout her life. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, scrap-booking, and riding horses. Her most cherished moments were spent with her family; most especially her daughters. Brenda married Greg Gilg on Dec.19, 1992 and was a devoted mother to her two daughters, Hannah and Madison. She was preceded in death by her nephew, Matthew Peterson in 2004. Survivors include her daughters, Hannah and Madison; parents, Duane and Lavonne Peterson of Gothenburg, three brothers, Dan (Rhonda) Peterson of Gothenburg, Mick (Corriene) Peterson of Gothenburg, Steve (Laura) Peterson of Seward and one sister, Susan (Glenn) Ashcraft of Malaga, Spain: numerous extended family members.
