Services will be held on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010 at 3 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cozad with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Karen was born on Oct. 13, 1941 at Clearwater to Gordon and Maude (McDaniel) Elston. She graduated from Cozad High School in 1960. On Jan. 12, 1962, she married William “Bill” Hanson at Cozad. The couple made their home in Cozad their entire married life. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Todd, and a daughter, Teri. Karen worked as a payroll clerk at Allied Mills before moving on to the Board of Public Works and eventually the Wilson Public Library. Karen retired from the library after 20 years of service. Karen was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cozad and was on the Wilson Public Library Foundation Board. Karen was an avid reader. She enjoyed bowling, and in younger years had been active in bowling league. Karen enjoyed gambling on occasion, but her most precious moments in life were spent with her family. Karen was preceded in death by her parents and brother, LeRoy Elston. Survivors include her husband, Bill Hanson of Cozad; son, Todd Hanson of Omaha; daughter, Teri Hanson of Cozad and a grandson, Zander, of Omaha.
