Services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 24, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Cozad with Pastor Doug Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Cozad Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Wayne was born Sept. 3, 1924 at Bertrand to John and Ada (Walters) Hosick. He attended Lexington High School until the 10th grade, when he left to serve his country. Wayne was awarded his honorary diploma in 1999. In 1943, Wayne enlisted in the United States Army were he fought for our country in World War II, at the age of 19. He was discharged in 1945 and returned home to Lexington. In 1946, he moved to Cozad and on July 3, 1947, he married Arlene E. Buss at Lincoln. In 1956, Wayne went to work for Leland Johansen at Johansen Farm Supply. Wayne later purchased the store and eventually it became known as Wayne’s Farm Supply. Wayne owned and operated the business with Arlene until 1988, when the couple sold it to their son, Gary. For many years, Wayne presented the Swine and Dog Showmanship Awards for the Dawson County 4-H Program from the Hosick Family. He was a lifetime member of the VFW where he had served as post commander and quartermaster; and the Disabled American Veterans. Wayne served on the Cozad Honor Guard and as a charter member of the Chamber of Commerce, Cozad Elks Lodge No. 2250 and the American Legion. Wayne was integral in organizing the Cozad Avenue of Flags, and even named the park that the flags flew over. He was a past chairman of the Cozad Senior Citizen Board. He was also a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Cozad. Along with many of the accomplishments Wayne achieved in his life, he proudly volunteered his time on the Cozad Fire Department for 37 years; five of those years were as the Cozad Fire Chief. Wayne is survived by his wife of 63 years, Arlene Hosick of Cozad; two sons, Gary (Kathy) Hosick and Randy (Pat) Hosick, all of Cozad; five grandsons, Troy (Diane) Hosick of Cozad, Marc (Colleen) Hosick of Bellevue, Jeremy (Jennifer) Hosick of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Travis Hosick and Trent (Elsie) Hosick, all of Cozad; 12 great-grandchildren, Haley and Taryn Hosick and Darrien Gomez of Cozad, Kyle, Brooke and Tanner Hosick of Bellevue, Sydney, Kendall and Camryn Hosick of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Braxton Walker, Wyatt and Sadie Hosick of Cozad as well as host of other close relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a great-granddaughter, Alicyn Grace in 2008; two brothers, Ralph and Myron Hosick; two sisters-in-law, a niece and a nephew.
