Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 8, 2009 at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Reverend Lyle Schoen officiating. Inurnment with military honors will be in the Walnut Grove Cemetery north of Cozad. Visitation for memorial book signatures will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Jensen of Cozad; daughter, Coni (Larry) Bratton of Cozad; son, Maurice Allen of Topeka, Kan; five grandchildren, James (Tammy) Bratton of Douglas, Wyo., Michelle (Jamie) Liewer of O’Neill, Tim (Diana) Allen, Kellyn (Jason) Bayles and Anjie Allen all of Topeka, Kan; six great-grandchildren, Jacob, Bayley and Dawson Bratton, as well as Walker, Wyatt and Wreece Liewer; four brothers, Art Jensen of Grand Island, George (Darlene) Jensen of Cozad, Ernie (Margaret) Jensen of North Platte, Marvin (Jean) Jensen of Cullison, Kan; three sisters, Helen Armour and Leona McGarth both of Grand Island, Margaret Lukenback of Tulsa, Okla; sister-in-law, Mildred Jensen of Cozad and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. In addition to his first wife, Iona, Harlan was preceded in death by five brothers, Alfred, Clarence, Raymond, Harold and Carl. He was born Feb. 3, 1917 at Howard County to John and Christina (Larsen) Jensen. He attended District 13 School at Dannebrog. On June 13, 1941, Harlan entered the U.S. Army where he served in WWII. In 1951, he married Margaret “Iona” Darling at Cozad. The couple made their home in Cozad where Harlan worked a number of different jobs, including mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service. Iona preceded him in death in 1990. On Feb. 14, 1992, he married Phyllis Suffield at the First United Methodist Church in Cozad. The couple lived their entire married life in Cozad. They enjoyed traveling around the United States where Harlan competed in horseshoe pitching. He pitched in over eight World Horseshoe Tournaments. He was a long time member of the VFW, American Legion and Cozad Elks Lodge.
