Jones, 89, of Overton, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2010, at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Overton with the Rev. Katherine Bullard officiating.   The family has honored Eilene’s wishes that her casket be closed for visitation and the funeral service.   A time for visiting with the family and guestbook signing will be Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.   Burial will be in the Overton Cemetery.  She was born Nov. 21, 1920, in the Overton area to Hugh and Emma (Anderson) Purintun. She graduated from Overton High School. Following graduation she married H. Thomas Jones on June 15, 1944, at Philadelphia, Pa. She worked in Philadelphia for several years while Tom served in the Navy during WWII.   After the war, they returned to Overton where Eilene lived and worked her entire life. She was employed by the United States Postal Service in 1965, until her retirement some 20 years later. She became the Postmaster in 1977.   Eilene was a member of several organizations including the United Methodist Women, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Rebekah’s, and the Overton Cemetery Board of Directors. She was a devoted life-long member of the United Methodist Church and was on several church committees over the years. She loved playing bridge and until recently was an active member in local bridge clubs.   Eilene especially loved her family and cherished family gatherings and dinners. She adored her two grandsons. She was a devoted wife and cared intently for her husband, Tom, during his illness with brain cancer. Her sister Catherine Adams was her closest friend.   Eilene is survived by her son, Dwight (JoAnn Eakins) Jones of Boston, Mass.; two grandsons, Jansen Jones of Atlanta, Ga., Joel Jones of Philadelphia, Pa.; one sister, Catherine (Robert) Adams of Lexington; one brother, Charles (Kathryn) Purintun of Gothenburg and a host of family, friends and neighbors.   Eilene was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, in 1998; two brothers, Floyd “Mike” Purintun and Vernon “Pat” Purintun and one sister, Leila Ann Huff.  File at: http://files.usgwarchives.net/ne/dawson/obits/j/jones369gob.txt This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/nefiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
