Kraus, 66, of Cozad, died Aug. 19, 2010 at the Cozad Community Hospital. Services will be held on Monday, Aug. 23, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Gary Potter officiating. Burial with military honors will be held at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery in Maxwell. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. Ron was born Oct. 2, 1943 at Cedar Rapids to Frank and Eunice (Speer) Kraus. He attended Cozad High School. Following his schooling, Ron entered the U.S. Army where he served for three years. Following his discharge, he married Judy F. Malcom. The couple made their home in Cozad where Ron worked as a carpenter alongside his father-in-law. Ron briefly worked on a farm south of Cozad before moving to North Platte in 1968 to work with the Union Pacific Railroad. Ron started as a switchman; eventually working his way up to brakeman, a position that he held for many years. Ron retired as a conductor in 2000. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; two infant children, Darin in 1966 and Terry in 1974, and a brother, Bill. Survivors include his wife, Judy Kraus of Cozad; four children, Troy (Angel) Kraus of Ripley, Okla., Tawnya (Jeff) Jackson of Cozad, Traci (Jeff) Svajgr of Cozad, Trevis Kraus of Broken Bow; eight grandchildren, Brittany (James) Minor of Belle Chasse, La., Brooke and Brielle Kraus of Ripley, Okla., Ronelle and Karissa Jackson of Cozad, Ahnika, Addison and Alex Svajgr all of Cozad; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Caleigh; sister, Reva (Leon) Nichols of Cozad; special Godmother, Rosalie Lemmon of Cozad and a host of other relatives and friends.
