McFarland, 90, of Lexington, formerly of Sumner, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. Funeral Services will be Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Sumner – West Campus with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating.   Visitation will be held Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, from 5-7 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington.   Burial will be in the Jewell Cemetery at Sumner. Survivors include her son, Keith (Mary Lou) McFarland of Sumner; granddaughter, Robin (Jim) Richards of Eddyville; grandson, Greg McFarland of Oconto; great-grandchildren, Tanya Fletcher (Regin) of Mosca, Colo.; RJ Myers (Katie) of Eddyville, Cegie Ludeke (Jeff) of Atlanta and BJ Richards (Travis Flynn) of Broken Bow; great-great-grandchildren, Blayden, Waylan, Quinten and Dally Fletcher of Mosca, Colo., and Delaney and Presley Myers of Eddyville; three brothers, Jack (Phyllis) Roper of Marysville, Wash, Dean (Donna) Roper of Lincoln, Zale (Ila) Roper of Amherst and numerous nieces and nephews.   Avis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mick in 2006; one brother, Zane Roper; two sisters, Beryl Thomas and Doris Shadley and great-great-granddaughter, Riese Micah Fletcher.   She was born Nov. 7, 1918, in Sumner to Harry and Fern (Brown) Roper. She attended elementary school at Stone School and Sumner High School. Avis was united in marriage to Clifford “Mick” McFarland on March 2, 1934, at Norton, Kan., and to this union one son, Keith, was born. They were married just days short of 72 years. In May of 1996 Avis and Mick professed their faith in the Lord at a joint baptismal service.   Avis and Mick lived the majority of their married lives in the Sumner area farming and raising livestock. After leaving the farm Avis worked at Plectron in Overton for numerous years. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, crocheting, knitting, raising Himalayan cats, and canaries.   In 2001, Avis moved to Lexington to be near Mick. Her apartment at Wel-Life was only steps away from Mick’s room at Plum Creek Care Center.
