Effie M. McFarland, age 93, of Kearney, formerly of Sumner, died Saturday, 
April 12, 2008 at the Mother Hull Home in Kearney.

Graveside services will be held Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. 
Patricks Catholic Cemetery at Eddyville with the Rev. Dean Pofahl officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 16 from 5-7 p.m. with the family present 
at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary in Kearney. A memorial reception will be held 
on Thursday, April 17 at the Sumner Community Hall following the graveside 
service.

Survivors include two sons, James “Joe” (Cherie) McFarland of Norwalk, Iowa, 
and Robert McFarland of Grand Island; one daughter, Pamela (Ronald) Miller of 
Kearney; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great-
grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990; one brother, Carl Snurr, one 
sister, Sylva Stroh and one daughter-in-law, Karen McFarland.

She was born Feb. 17, 1915 in Miller to Joseph and Mettie (Rollings) Snurr. 
She graduated from Sumner High School.

On Jan. 5 1935, she married George McFarland in Eddyville.
