Richard “Dick” Nelsen, age 75 of Cozad, died March 11, 2011 at the Cozad 
Community Hospital in Cozad.

A private family service will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2011.  A private 
burial will be in the Cozad Cemetery.

Visitation for memorial book signatures will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 
from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.

Dick was born Feb. 23, 1936 at Marshalltown, Iowa to Frederick and 
Thesnelda “Tess” (Matzner) Nelsen.  Dick graduated from Exira High School in 
1954.  He went on to attend the University of Iowa where he completed his 
undergraduate education in 1958.

On June 13, 1959, Dick married Mary Jo “Tina” Thielen at Exira, Iowa.  Their 
union was blessed with three children; Greg, Eric and Jill. 

Dick is lovingly survived by his wife of over 51 years, Mary Jo “Tina” Nelsen 
of Cozad; two sons, Greg (Mary) Nelsen of Callaway, Eric Nelsen of Arnold; 
daughter, Jill (Scott) Breon of Cozad; brother, Bruce Nelsen of Cozad; sister, 
Liz (Ron) Johnson of Rapid City, S.D.; brother-in-law, Tom (Evelyn) Thielen of 
Ames, Iowa; 11 grandchildren, Jake (Stephanie), Casey, Dalton, Tara, Nichole, 
Nathan and Jaiden Nelsen, Ian and Taylor Schmeeckle, Luke and Nathan Breon; 
two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister-in-law, Karma.
