Naoma I. Newquist, age 87, of Kearney, previously of Sumner, died Wednesday,
Sept. 8, 2010 at the St. John’s Good Samaritan Center in Kearney.

Funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 10, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the United
Church of Sumner East Campus with Pastor Ken Hutson officiating.

Burial will be at the Jewell Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Horner Lieske McBride and
Kuhl Funeral and Cremation Services in Kearney and one hour prior to the service
on Friday at the church. 

Naoma was born Jan. 20, 1923 in Sumner to Harry and Hazel (Knox) Lahm.  She
graduated from Sumner High School in 1940.  She went to the Kearney Normal
School and earned her teachers certificate and then later graduated from Kearney
State College in 1971.  She married Glen Newquist on May 22, 1947 in Sumner. 
She taught at rural schools in Dawson County and in Overton and Sumner.  After
retiring in the mid 1980s she stayed involved with the Sumner schools by
substitute teaching. 

She was a member of the United Church of Sumner.  Naoma was an active member in
her church.  She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s events and activities. 
She also enjoyed painting, watching the Huskers, walking, and taking care of her
yard and flowers.  She thoroughly appreciated all the cards, letters, and gifts
she received from family and friends during her time at St. John’s.       

Surviving relatives include her daughters, Pam (Mike) O’Neill of Kearney, Brenda
(Gary) Rohde of Eddyville, Colleen (Mike) Winter of Elmwood; son, Donn (Martha)
Newquist of Sumner; grandchildren, Todd O’Neill and Lindsey O’Neill of Kearney,
Kyle O’Neill of Omaha, Marcus Winter of Tulsa, Okla., John and Kresha Rohde of
Eddyville, Jori and Aaron Newell of Eagle, Dustin and Karla Rohde of Kearney,
John and Jenni Newquist of Pasco, Wash.; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Lueking,
Abbie and Allie Rohde, KiLee, Kassie, and Khloe Newell, Kalon and Makenna Rohde;
brothers, Murl (Deloris) Lahm of Kearney, Glenn (Loyce) Lahm of Becker, Minn.,
Stan (Lucille) Lahm of Ames, Iowa, Roger (Karen) Lahm of Spirit Lake, Iowa;
sisters, Ilia (Dale) Wright of Elm Creek, Connie (Bob) Hansen of Prospect
Heights, Ill.. and numerous nieces and nephews

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen, and one sister, Phyllis Savant.
