Nott, age 90, of Elwood, died Saturday, July 18, 2009 at Elwood Care Center in Elwood. Viewing and visitation will be Monday, July 20, 2009 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Elwood from 4 until 8 p.m. and prior to services on Tuesday at the church. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Jeff Ernstmeyer officiating. Burial will be in Elwood Cemetery with Military Honors at graveside. Survivors include wife, Eleanor Nott of Elwood; four sons Jerry Nott and Norman (Janet) Nott of Grand Island,Billy (Char) Nott of Arapahoe,Raleigh Nott of Johnson Lake; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Sharol in 1959; a brother, Lyle Wayne Nott, and two sisters, Wilma Tull and Carol Jean Nott. He was born Dec. 15, 1918 at Elwood to Elias, better known as Lyle, and Amalia (Huckfeldt) Nott. Raleigh was a life long resident of Gosper County. He graduated from Elwood High School with the Class of 1937. Following graduation he helped with the construction of Johnson Lake and canal. He enlisted in the US Army on Feb. 18, 1942 and served till Sept. 16, 1945, receiving a Bronze Star. He married Eleanor Schneider on Nov. 30, 1947 at St John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis. They farmed and raised cattle south of Elwood for many years. They moved to Elwood in 1994. Raleigh served as Gosper County Commissioner from 1971 until 1988. He was one of the founding Fathers for the Gosper County Senior Center. He moved to Elwood Care Center in September of 2007. He was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, VFW Post #290 and American Legion Post, all of Elwood.
