Plummer, 85, of Grand Island died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2011 at Tri- County Hospital in Lexington. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011 at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Jonathan Sorensen officiating. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday evening from 4 to 7 pm with a 7 pm Rosary Service at Apfel Funeral Home in Grand Island. Mrs. Plummer was born on April 22, 1925 in Brayton, the daughter of Joseph and Catherine (Kinney) Bigley. She attended school in Brayton through the tenth grade, graduating from St. Joseph’s Academy in O’Connor with the class of 1942. She was united in marriage to William Plummer Jr., Jan. 29, 1945. Four children were born to this union. She lived in Grand Island all her married life with the exception of the last seven months as a resident at the Elwood Care Center. She was employed at the Twin Rivers Egg Plant, Cornhusker Ordnance Plant and after working 17 years at the Nebraska Veterans Home was able to retire. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, the VFW Auxiliary, Platt-Duetsche Society and the Eagle’s Club. Survivors of the immediate family include two sons, Paul (Dee) Plummer of the Johnson Lake area, near Lexington, Bob (Linda) Plummer of Grand Island; 18 grandchildren; 25 great- grandchildren; three brothers-in-law, Fred Plummer of Grand Island, Bill Hrabelski of Wilmington, Del., Ted (Imogene) George of Grand Island; sisters-in-law, Irene Bigley of Grand Island, Helen Bigley of Denver and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years; two daughters, Jean Mason on Nov. 5, 2009, and Shelley Braun, April 22, 2010; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward Bigley, Harold and Maureen Bigley and Kenneth and Rosey Bigley; one sister and brother-in-law, Wilma (Condon) and Francis Fisher and Bill Condon; four sisters-in-law and husbands, Marge Hrabelski, Bernitta and Orville Hinds, Irline Plummer and Jean George.
