John “Jack” Reed, age 78 of Cozad, died Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at the Golden 
Living Care Center in Cozad.

Services will be held Sunday, March 13, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Berryman 
Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Nathan Rhea officiating.  Burial will be in 
the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery northeast of Cozad.

Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Berryman 
Funeral Home in Cozad.

Jack was born Oct. 3, 1932 on a farm east of Lexington to J. Frank and Beulah 
(Courter) Reed.  His first school was District 21; he went on to graduate from 
Lexington High School in 1949.  

On Jan. 20, 1952, Jack married Gail M. Christiansen at Cozad.  Their union was 
blessed with six children, Marcia, John, Deb, Terri, Kim and Douglas.  

Jack is survived by his wife of over 59 years, Gail Reed of Cozad; two sons, 
John (Shelly) Reed of Cozad, Douglas (Kim) Reed of Seward; four daughters, 
Marcia Pedersen of Plattsmouth, Deb (Dennis) Meredith of Gothenburg, Terri 
Hergenrader (Jim McAdams) of Gothenburg, Kim (Todd) Morse of Omaha; three 
brothers, Larry (Arlene) Reed of Lexington, Dennis (Barbara) Reed of Kearney, 
David (Joy) Reed of Bennington; two sisters, Shirley Hill and Linda Bonner 
both of Kearney; aunt, Della Courter of Lexington; special cousins, Bob (Nola) 
Reed of Lexington, Tom Reed of Sterling, Colo.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great 
grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Ryan Reed; son-in-law, 
Roger Pedersen and brother-in-law, Troy Hill.
