Ardeth E. (Smith) Richards, age 84, of Cozad, died May 31, 2010 at the Tabitha 
Hospice Care Unit in Lincoln.  
Services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Berryman 
Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad with Pastor Lyle Schoen officiating.  Burial will 
be in the Cozad Cemetery. 
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at the 
Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Ardeth was born on Nov. 25, 1925 near Oconto in Custer County to Herbert A. 
and Anna (Swan) Smith.
She attended rural school at District 211 in Custer County and graduated from 
Cozad High School in 1942.
She taught school for 11 years in rural schools in Dawson County.
On July 3, 1957, she married Richard D. “Dick” Richards in Lincoln.  On April 
3, 1956, the couple adopted their daughter, LeAnn K. Richards.  Except for a 
brief time in Des Moines, Iowa and Columbus they lived in Cozad their entire 
married life.  The couple had been in the dry cleaning business for 25 years.  
Ardeth had also worked at the Cozad Motel for 17 years.
Ardeth was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cozad.  She taught 
Sunday School there in the 1960s.
Ardeth is preceded in death by her husband, Dick D. Richards; her parents; one 
sister, Enid Griffith; and a brother, Kenneth Smith.
Survivors include her daughter, LeAnn Richards of Lincoln; sister, Linnea 
(Charles) Dillon of Cozad; several nieces and nephews; old friends and new 
friends from St. Elizabeth Hospital and Tabitha Health Care Center.  She 
touched a lot of people in her seven months spent in Lincoln.
