Norma Louise Rickel, 77, of Lexington, died Jan. 15, 2008, at Plum Creek Care 
Center in Lexington.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at the First 
United Methodist Church in Lexington, with the Rev. Todd Karges officiating.

Norma’s body was cremated. There will be no visitation.

Survivors include her husband, Richard Rickel of Lexington; one son, Jim 
(Natalie) Rickel of Lexington; two daughters, Jeri (Dave) Jaixen of Grand 
Island and Sue Hedges of Waterloo;  one brother, Dr. Gerald, Jr. (Lee) Young 
of Barrington, Ill.; seven grandchildren, Matt (Leslie) Irwin of Omaha, Becky 
(Rocky) Doerr of Andover, Minn., Carissa (Kyle) Stritt of Kearney, Beth Jaixen 
of Phoenix, Ariz., Brandon Howell of Lincoln, Josh Irwin of Des Moines, Iowa; 
and Trisha Rickel of Lexington; three great-grandchildren, Abby and Kaitlyn 
Doerr and Avery Stritt.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, Gertrude Young.

She was born Feb. 4, 1930, at Medicine Lodge, Kan., to Gerald and Edith (Saal) 
Young. 

Norma was united in marriage to Richard Rickel on June 11, 1950, at the United 
Methodist Church in Lexington. Three children were blessed to this union, Sue, 
Jim, and Jeri.
