Schwarz, 87, of Lexington, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010, at Tri-County Hospital in Lexington. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, Sept. 3, 2010, at 2 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington with the Rev. Jorge Canela officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington. Visitation will be held Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, from 6-7 p.m. with Rosary to follow at 7:00 p.m. at the Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington. He was born June 16, 1923, in Gosper County to John Fred and Elizabeth (Schweinhuber) Schwarz. Alfon graduated from Lexington High School with the class of 1942. He then entered the United States Army, serving his country during WWII from Feb. 16, 1943, until being honorably discharged on Jan. 9, 1946. Alfon was united in marriage to Linda Netzel at Lexington. Five children were blessed to this marriage; twins, Alfred and Eric, Vickie, Eunice and James. Alfon worked many years for St. Ann’s School as their custodian. He worked for the City of Lexington as a cemetery caretaker and was in charge of St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery for many years. He was a wealth of information, as he knew where every grave was at St. Ann’s. He was a faithful member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the VFW, where he served as past commander and was presently the Quartermaster for the past 40-plus years and St. Ann’s Cemetery Board. Survivors include his wife, Linda Schwarz of Lexington; two sons, Alfred (Deborah) Schwarz of Elwood, James (Pam) Schwarz of Lexington; two daughters, Vickie (Ed) Clements of Lexington, Eunice (Tim) Cantrell of Beemer; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, Christopher (Kristen) Schwarz and their children, Claire and Seth of Elwood, Scott Schwarz and his sons, Noah and Mason of Elwood, Brett (Doreen) Schwarz of Norfolk, Carrie Schwarz and Julie Schwarz, both of Lexington, Matt (Sarah) Clements and their sons, Sam and Jack of Clarksville, Tenn., Ben Clements of Anchorage, Alaska; Josh (Susie) Cantrell and their daughters, Avery and Harper of Omaha, Erin Cantrell of Kearney, Andrew Cantrell of Lincoln, Zack Schwarz of Fremont, Kate Schwarz of Omaha; one daughter-in-law, Lisa (Terry) Hassman of Fremont and one sister-in-law, Lucy (Darrel) Buesing of Gothenburg. Alfon was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Eric in 1998, and one brother, Emil in 2004.
