Theesen, Jr., 88, of Lexington, formerly of Hastings, died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington. Memorial services will be Thursday, May 6, 2010; 10:30 a.m. at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings with Pastor Joel Remmers officiating. Burial with military rites will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. There will be no visitation. John was born Oct. 25, 1921 in Adams County to John Otto Theesen, Sr. and Antka Marie (Dudden) Theesen. John was in the U.S. Navy from July 10, 1942 to Oct.11, 1945 during World War II, and from Jan. 16, 1951 to March 21, 1952 during the Korean War. On Nov. 22, 1945, he married Edna P. Jack at First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. She preceded him in death on Jan. 25, 2006. He worked as a carpenter superintendent for Carmichael’s Construction. He was a lifetime member of the First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Eagle’s Club for 45 years, V.F.W. and the American Legion for more than 50 years. Survivors include his daughters, Nancy Hinrichs of Lincoln, Susan (Charles) Metzger of Memphis, Tenn.; stepdaughter, JoNell Moore of Texas; stepson, Robert Lewis of Hillsboro, Texas; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Edna Eckert of Hastings and a brother, Marvin Theesen of Cheyenne, Wyo. John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna P. Theesen; infant brother, Delbert Theesen; four sisters, Margaret Bunting, Thelma Coutts, Arlene Milam, and Darlene Lockhart and three brothers, Henry Theesen, Charles Theesen, and Virgil Theesen. Memorials are suggested to Elwood Care Center, Elwood, Grand Generation Center, Lexington or First St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Hastings.
