Wheeler, age 82, died Dec. 28, 2010, in Sun City, Ariz. A memorial service will be scheduled in Sun City on Jan. 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Willowbrook United Methodist Church. Jim, his wife Mona, and their children moved to Lexington in 1959. In partnership with his father and brother, Jim developed and managed the Wheelers Stores farm supply business, which was headquartered in Grand Island. Initially, Jim opened and managed the Wheelers store in Lexington. Jim was born in Carlos, Minn., in 1928 to Lloyd “Ted” and Margaret Wheeler. He graduated from high school in nearby Clarissa and then went to Okinawa and Guam to build roads and runways for the military. In 1951, he married Mona M. Murphy and then served in the Marine Corps at Camp Lejeune, N.C. After living in Nebraska, Jim and Mona divided their time between East Battle Lake, Minn., and Sun City. He is survived by his wife Mona; his four children, Mary Kay (Jim) Tuma of Grand Island, Sue Wheeler of Los Alamos, N.M., Pam (John) Panning of Bradenton, Fla., and Bill (Carol) Wheeler of Scarsdale, N.Y., as well as five grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Beverly Swanson and Shirley Eberspacher, both of Grand Island. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lloyd J. Wheeler.
