Services will be held Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. the Church of Christ on Newell in Cozad with Mike Dennis and Roger Sloan officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad. He is survived by his fiancé, Gaylene Wilcox of Farnam; son, Billi Joe of Bend, Ore.; two daughters, Misty (Mike) Byrns of Lexington, Cheryl Woodring of Bend, Ore.; step-daughter, Amanda (Boatie) Diltz of Gothenburg; seven grandchildren, Rosey Meyers, Trisha Wilcox, Brittany Kussman, Dagger Anderson, Taylor Timmons, Landon Diltz, Samantha Diltz; great-grandchild, Ema Meyers and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; step father, Lewis Miller; and his grandparents, Togo and Hazel Nakano. Russell was born Sept. 6, 1950 at Lexington to Arlie and Delores (Wilcox) Gritts. He attended Cozad High School. On Oct. 1, 1967, he married Elaine L. Earll at Cozad. In 1976, he entered the U.S. Army. Following his discharge, he and his family made their home in several locations throughout Dawson County where Russell was employed primarily as a welder. He was a member of the American Legion, the American Rifle Association and the NRA. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Russell enjoyed camping, gun collecting and his dogs.
