   An Old Lady Suicides
Ponca, Neb., April 1.--[Special Telegram to the Bee.]--
Caroline Schmidt, an old lady of this place but a few
years from Germany, committed suicide yesterday
afternoon by hanging herself in a stable adjoining her
daughter's residence, a few miles in the country.
She was visiting the daughter. The authorities did
not deem it necessary to hold an inquest, as it was
apparent that the death was the result of her own act.
The cause is a mystery, though among the neighbors
many are assigned. Old age and feebleness of mind are
regarded as the principal ones. She was honest and
very industrious, and had the respect of all.
