Funeral Services were Tuesday, Dec. 15 at the Banta-Torrey Funeral Chapel in Alma with Pastor Michael Bell officiating. Burial was at the Alma Cemetery. Visitation was Monday noon until 7:00 p. m. and Tuesday noon until service time. Cleora June Secrest was born the second child of three children to John A and Elsie Ellen (Macklin) Secrest on June 1, 1926 at Franklin. “Cle” as everyone came to know her was baptized and attended the Congregational Church in Franklin. She started school at Franklin, later attending at Bloomington, at Riverton and completed high school at Franklin where she graduated with the class of 1943. Following high school she completed Normal Training and was later employed at a creamery in Franklin. On Sept. 19, 1946 Miss Cleora June Secrest was united in marriage to Bruce D. Metzger at the Methodist parsonage in Smith Center, Kan., by the Rev. W. N. Austin. To this union four children were born, John V., Pam S., Rodney E., and Stephen J. who passed away at birth. The Metzgers made their home in Alma where “Cle’s” husband Bruce was employed as a plumber. After her marriage, “Cle” became the bookkeeper and answered the telephone for her husband’s plumbing business. She had resided at the Colonial Villa since Sept. 17, 2009. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving and devoted husband Bruce at their home in Alma; one daughter Pam Metzger and one son Rodney Metzger, both of Alma; a daughter-in-law, Katherine Metzger of Lexington; four grandchildren, Timothy Metzger of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii and Curtis Metzger of Lexington, Rebecca (Brad) Wolfe of Alma, and Kali Metzger of Republican City; twin great- granddaughters, Alexis and Madison as well as other relatives and many friends. In addition to her infant son, “Cle” was preceded in death by her father on Feb. 8, 1961; her mother on Aug. 11, 1996; her oldest son John; her brother Randall “Bus” Secrest and his wife Kay; her sister ValJean Webber and her husband Phillip.
