Floyd O. Berke, age 85, of Kearney, formerly of Eustis, died Monday, March 28, 
2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.  

Services will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s 
Lutheran Church in Eustis with Pastor Beverly Rautenberg-Panko officiating. 

Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral 
Home in Cozad.

Burial with military honors will be in the East Cemetery at Eustis.  

He was born on April 24, 1925, nine miles south of Eustis to Otto and Lydia 
(Zeeh) Berke. He was baptized on June 1, 1925 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in 
Eustis by Pastor John Hiltner and remained a member of St. John’s all his 
life. He was later confirmed with the class of 1939 by Pastor Martin Stricker. 
Floyd attended Elder Creek School near his home and graduated from Eustis 
Public Schools in 1942.   

Floyd was united in marriage to Esther L. Schmeeckle on Aug. 15, 1954 at St. 
John’s Lutheran Church. Their union was blessed with three children; Mark, 
Neil and JoAn. 

He is survived by his two sons, Mark (Chris) Berke and Neil (Jolene) Berke, 
all of Kearney; a daughter, JoAn Berke of Kearney; a brother, Glenn (Beth) 
Berke of Eustis; two sisters, Ruth Lyon of Arvada, Colo., Janet (Dean) Gerken 
of Eustis; five grandchildren, Emelie, Katherine and Sarah Berke, Derik 
(Lindsay) Geisler and Ryan Geisler; two great grandchildren, Bladen and Alexia 
Geisler and a host of other relatives and friends. 

Floyd was preceded in death by his wife, Esther in 2007, and a brother-in-law, 
Glen “Bud” Lyon.
