Services were held Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel in Cozad. Burial was in the West View Cemetery at Eustis. Visitation was Tuesday, June 8, 2010 at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad Gene was born on July 15, 1944 at Lexington to Donald and Irene (Buehner) Easterday. At the age of five, Gene traveled with his family to Buhl, Idaho where he attended grade school. In 1958, Gene’s family moved to the Eustis area to farm; Gene later graduated from Eustis High School. In January of 1965, Gene enlisted into the Army National Guard where he served a six year term. On June 18, 1967, Gene married Sherry Houlden at Elwood. The couple made their home south of Eustis; where they would come to live their entire married lives together. The couple farmed until the mid 1980s, when Gene began trucking and custom harvesting. Their union was blessed with two children, Mike and Michelle. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Gene was a member of the U.S. Custom Harvesters Association. Gene enjoyed boating, skiing, camping and spending time with family and friends. He especially loved to socialize; Gene never knew a stranger. Survivors include his wife, Sherry Easterday of Eustis; son, Mike (Stacey) Easterday of Denver, Colo.; daughter, Michelle (Mike) Hand of Midland, S.D.; step-mother, June Easterday of Eustis; two sisters, Carolyn Houser of Eustis, Marjorie Hueftle of Cambridge; three brothers, Rod (Kim) Easterday and Vernon (Maria) Easterday, all of Eustis, John Easterday of San Francisco, Calif.; six grandchildren, Austin, Ella, Cadence, Reese, Carson and Riley and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his birth parents, Irene and Donald Easterday; infant sister, Marilyn Kay; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rubie and Clyde Houlden; two brothers-in-law, Rex Houser and Scott Houlden.
