Rupe, age 77, of Hastings, formerly of Eustis, died on Thursday, Feb.10, 2011 at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Monday, February 14, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eustis with Pastor Neil Kloppenborg officiating. A private family inurnment with military honors will be held at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell. As per request of the family, there will be no visitation He was born June 10, 1933 at Eustis to Harvey Sr. and Wilma (Engelbright) Rupe. Harvey’s birth mother passed away when he was only six months old so the only mother Harvey knew was his father’s second wife, Lorraine (Woods) Rupe. He graduated from Eustis High School in 1950. Harvey was united in marriage to Madeline Nickerson on Aug. 16, 1952 at the Evangelical Brethern Church at Orafino. Three children were blessed to this union; Ed, Cheri and Clint. Harvey enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953 at Omaha. He worked as an engineer on the pipeline at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and faithfully served our country until 1955. While serving Harvey earned his National Defense Service Medal and his Good Conduct Medal. Harvey and Madeline lived their married life in Kearney, Fort Leonard Wood, Orafino, Eustis and Hastings. He had farmed for a few years and worked for Grabenstein Service Station and eventually bought the business making the name, Eustis 66. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 257, the Eustis Gun Club, the Eustis Chamber of Commerce and the United Methodist Church in Eustis. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Madeline Rupe of Hastings; mother, Lorraine Rupe of Cambridge; two sons, James “Ed” (Teri) Rupe of Eustis and Clint Gene (Jody) Rupe of McCook; a daughter, Cheri Lynn (Jim) Rolfes of Sutton; three sisters, Peggy Whisler of Lincoln, Barbara (Larry) Gagna of Denver and Virginia (Ken) Rauch of Huntley, Mont.; six grandchildren, Laura (Brandon) Hill of Grand Island, Joni Rupe, Dustin Rupe, Lyndsay Rupe and Kendra Rolfes, all of Lincoln and Casey Rupe of San Diego, Calif.; two great- grandchildren, Mason and Karsyn Hill of Grand Island and a host of other relatives and friends. Harvey was preceded in death by his birth mother, Wilma; his father, Harvey and brothers-in-law, Tom Whisler and Joe Nickerson.
