Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 6 in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Sidney with Pastor Bradley Heinecke officiating. Burial was Tuesday afternoon in the Elwood Cemetery at Elwood. Visitation was at the Gehrig-Stitt Chapel on Monday. Thelma (Steinbrink) Schultz was born Feb. 28, 1937 to George and Ethel (Taylor) Steinbrink, south of Eustis. She was baptized June 27, 1943 and confirmed April 6, 1952 in the Methodist Church. One of eight children, the family moved to Loomis in 1943. Thelma started first grade at Rubien Country School. This school merged with Loomis School when she entered fourth grade, she then graduated from Loomis High School in 1955. Life on the farm provided many opportunities, lessons for the future, a solid work ethic and a very happy childhood. Activities in high school included being a class officer, playing volleyball, school plays and pep club to name a few. After graduation, Thelma went to Lincoln to attend the Lincoln Business College for several months. A job with CNPP and ID in Hastings followed until 1957 when she moved to Denver to work for GMAC until 1958. From 1958 to 1960 Thelma was employed with the Martin Co., which had opened a huge research center for the Titan Missile. While working at Martin Co. as a secretary, she met Bill Schultz, another employee. Bill and Thelma were married June 5, 1960 at the Methodist Church in Loomis and moved in August of that year to Stillwater, Okla. This marriage was blessed with four daughters: Amy (Phil) Minnick of Hardin, Mont., Anita (Kevin) Bricker of Aurora, Jenny Schultz of Denver and Sarah (Monte) Malzahn of Sidney. Thelma graduated from Panhandle State College at Goodwell, Okla., in 1974. She enjoyed almost 20 years of teaching third, forth and fifth grades in Lexington Public Schools. She was a member of local, state and national education associations. Thelma spent many years being involved in genealogy research which led to membership in DAR for herself, a daughter and a niece. She was very active in her church and the LWML and served several years on the church board of education. Joining her children as survivors include 10 grandchildren, Caleb (Bonnie) Minnick, Mallory, Jordan and Shelby Minnick, Eli, Gretchen and Sophie Bricker, Allyson, Ethan and Madison Malzahn; three great-grandchildren, Lily, Benjamin and Eli Minnick; a sister, Betty Klepper of Scottsbluff; a sister-in-law, June Steinbrink of Holdrege; three brothers, Eldon (Pauline) Steinbrink of Loomis, Rex (Twyla) Steinbrink of Trenton and Paul (Diane) Steinbrink of Kearney; a sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Schultz of Albuquerque, N.M. and many nieces and nephews also survive. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill in 1999; three brothers, infant Claude, Lloyd and Roger; a sister-in-law, Mitzi Steinbrink and two brothers-in-law, Pat Klepper and Bob Schultz.
